Adaptive Bike Riding

With all of the outdoor fun going on this summer, we want to share a resource with our families that can help children of all ability levels get involved!

Variety The Children’s Charity is a Pittsburgh-based charity dedicated to providing items and services that grant independence, mobility and freedom to children worldwide. Through their My Bike, My Stroller, and My Voice programs, eligible families can receive an adaptive bike, stroller, or communication device to ensure that their child is never left out, left behind, or excluded.

Here at Reach for Speech our Occupational Therapy team can assess a child’s need for an Adaptive Bike, or another piece of equipment offered through the program. If they are deemed to be a good fit, we can then write a Letter of Medical Justification as required by the program application.

Once approved, we can also take all necessary measurements to ensure that the Bike meets all of their adaptive needs and is built to the perfect specifications.

After receiving their new bike, we can also perform fittings and riding lessons to make sure the child is confident using it for all sorts of summer fun!

All of Variety’s services are provided at no charge to families. Reach for Speech would love to bring these resources to more of our patients who could benefit.

For a full list of qualifications please refer to this printable flyer or speak with your therapist next time you are in the office.
