Our New Location: Hilltop Horizons
Reach for Speech is so excited to announce that we will be opening a fourth location to serve our patients in the Pittsburgh Airport Area! However, this location will be a bit different from the traditional office setting our patients are used to; the new location will be in partnership with local organization, Hilltop Horizons!
Reach for Speech’s fourth location will be a fully operational Equine Assisted Services Center where our patients can receive Occupational, Physical, and Speech therapy treatment in conjunction with hippotherapy lessons.
Hilltop Horizons currently offers adaptive horseback riding and occupational therapy programs for children and adults with physical, cognitive and social challenges but is looking forward to partnering with us to expand these programs to reach to even more patients with special needs.
Many of our patients are already fans of the work that Hilltop Horizons does and attend lessons with them, we are so excited that we will now be able to integrate their therapy into such a fun and enriching activity.
Hippotherapy has a wide range of benefits both physical and mental that we know will help our patients immensely. The mental health benefits include improved emotional regulation, increased self-confidence and social skills, and enhanced sensory processing. Physically this therapy can help patients work on their motor skills, balance and coordination, as well as their core strength.
Caring for and riding a horse is also a great way to work on routine building for children who benefit from structured activities and consistent responsibilities. The repetitive nature of tasks like feeding, grooming, and riding can create a sense of predictability and security.
